Ikat Curtains

Ikat Curtains

It is slow going around here with summer vacations and visitors, but I did manage to make a little progress on the master bedroom with some quick sew curtains.  They were fairly simple to make, because I used 84″ white curtain panels for the lining.  They were only $10 at Target, so it turned out to be cheaper  than buying lining fabric and they were already cut to size which made the sewing easy.
I found the ikat fabric at a local remnant store for $15.99/yard and then I had a 20% off coupon.  I love the fabric.  It is called Ikat Kalah Blue from Duralee.
Basically, I laid the white panel on top of the wrong side of the curtain fabric – lining up the print at exactly the same point.  Since I was working with a large pattern, I wanted to make sure the pattern repeat was the same for each curtain.
First, the sides were pinned.
Then, the top and bottom hem were pinned.  I sewed the hemmed edges down using a 1/4″ seam allowance and leaving an opening for a rod pocket.  I used clips to hang the curtains, but I wanted to have rod pocket in case I ever changed my mind.  That happens a lot!

I love how they turned out.

I hope you are enjoying some down time with family and friends too.

The blue & white looks lovely in your room. The lampshade you made is the perfect accent to the fabric!

They look great in the master! And I LOVE how the pillow on the chair kind of mirrors the ikat pattern on the curtains! Another gorgeous project!

I must be changing my mind cause before I didn’t care for Ikat at all but slowly I’m really enjoying it and preferring it to other patterns.Guess I’m a hard sell.
Your curtains are gorgeous, I’d love to find some fabric like that to make myself some curtains for our room. The price you paid even with coupon is way over what I could afford but I’ll have to keep my eye out. Maybe Hobby Lobby will have some Ikat I like on their clearance fabric rack.
Hmmm, maybe I’ll have to look into a stencil to make my own. Would be much more labor intensive but if I could make them less expensively then guess it would be worth it. If I made them with paint cloth the expense would be made up for the stencil. I’ll have to go searching for an Ikat stencil. See what you started with your fantastic curtains? Sure glad you posted this project on the linky party. Happy summer
