Design Board: Master Bedroom

June 27, 2012 By Mary

I finally figured out how to make a design board in Photoshop Elements thanks to Shoot Fly Shoot.   It’s not a super fancy design board.  Afterall I’m just a beginner, but I’m pretty pleased with it and it does represent what I want to do in the master bedroom.   The feeling that I’m hoping to acheive in this room is a coastal inspired retreat using seagrass, wicker, ocean and sand hues of blue and beige, and coastal art and accesories.  I want it to be a room I won’t mind spending a third of my life in.
.
Here is how the room looks now.  It needs a little love.
I already have the major elements – the furniture and rug, along with some art work and the sea urchin lamp. I’ll be on the lookout for a reasonably priced round mirror and some new bedding.

I’m planning on making the curtains in the Duralee Kalah Blue Ikat print.  I found the material on sale at a local fabric store for 15.99 and had a coupon for 20% off.  It was a very good deal.  I’ll also make the accent pillows, and I’m planning on making the drum shade pendant too.

The really fun part will be accessorizing the room.
Below are the links to the inspiration pieces I used for the design board.
1. Gold Frames from Fort Hill Studios

2. Duralee Kalah Blue Ikat Curtain Fabric from Fabric.com
3. Seagrass Drum Pendant  from Lamps Plus
4. Benjamin Moore Aura Paint in Huntington Beige from Pottery Barn
5. Scented shell candles accessories from Pottery Barn
6. Sea Urchin Lamp from Horchow
7. Pottery Barn rug
8. Pottery Barn basket
9. Linen Pillows from Etsy and Matelasse Coverlet bedding from Pottery Barn
10. Hydrangeas, mirror, and dresser  from Pottery Barn

What do you think? Am I on the right track?

Your master bedroom is light and airy and will look great with all the items you’ve got picked out. Oh, could I ever have fun making dreamy design boards! Good job on yours, looks very professional.

Definitely on the right track! I love everything you picked out. I’m so impressed that you use Photoshop. I have tried but honestly I just can’t get the hang of it. Is Shoot Fly Shoot Kevin Palmer’s site? You are beside me at Sherry’s party so I thought I would pop over. Glad I did!

Love your design board! Really! I need to learn how to make one. Doesn’t it seem like when you finally figure something out there are about 5,000 more things to learn!

Lovely! I have an indigo/white printed fabric for my master and have been trying to pin down a color palette – this was great inspiration!
