Living Room Progress

I wanted to share the progress that I’ve made so far on the living room. Here is a picture of how it looks now.
Here is a before picture.
We used a console we had in the upstairs hallway to repurpose into a bigger TV stand. The one we had was too small for our current TV. It got coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Aubusson Blue and Antibes Green and I love the new turquoise color,
and the surprise yellow inside the drawer. I already had the paint leftover from previous projects, so the cost for this upcycle was zero dollars. You can read more about it here.
I made some zippered pillows using a Design Sponge tutorial. Total cost for the pillow fabrics, zippers and inserts was $60. I bought the blue ticking stripe pillow at Home Goods for $40.
Here is another before picture with some of my project ideas.
I added this gallery wall over the sofa. I already had all the pictures except for the one in the middle, which I bought at Home Goods for $40.
These blue lamps got a new coat of black paint which really updated them. This was another free project.
I still need to look for a small coffee table and slipcover the blue chairs.

If you are wondering why my before pictures are so dark and grainy and my after pictures are so much better, it’s because I took this online photography class from Shoot Fly Shoot. Kevin (Lettered Cottage) and Josh are excellent teachers and I learned so much from their easy to follow video tutorials. They have a whole video dedicated to how to shoot a room. It was the best $69 that I have spent. My before pictures are shot on automatic with no flash and then lightened in Picnik, but the after pictures are shot on manual without any need for lightening. I learned how to adjust the settings to let in the most light. I highly recommend the class. Now I’m taking their Photoshop Elements  class.

Mary, it is so beautiful! And I might have to take the photoshop elements class. I’m pretty comfortable with my camera, but I have elements and have no idea how to use it!

    Mary-
I am so happy that I found your blog-I could kiss you! I got a new dslr camera for mothers day. I was so excited and I love it! I love it so much, but i have no idea how to use it the “right” way. Your pictures were beautiful and then when you talked about Shoot fly shoot-I went and looked it up immediately-and I am now signed up to take the online class. Thank you soooo much for sharing what you have learned! Also-your room looks fantastic! I love the pillows on the couch and I love that vase! Awesome!! Thanks again Mary-you have no idea how excited you have made me!
    Have a happy, happy weekend!

Your changes have made such a big difference! I love all the pillow fabrics you’ve chosen and the color you painted your TV console. I’m still trying to figure out the settings on my camera, and may just ask for that online photo class for my birthday. Your photos are stunning! Thanks for sharing.

visiting you from the TT&J wrap up party. I love your room make-over! I especially like the yellow inside the drawer, what a nice surprise 🙂 I like how you give the prices for everything and the sources where you learned things, so many people don’t do that! Liked you on FB so I can keep up with your future projects

Wow. Looks fabulous! I love the paint color on the dresser/TV stand. Your art also makes a huge difference on that wall. Love how you grouped everything together.
