A Coastal Cottage Living Room

September 26, 2012 By Mary

A few weeks ago I shared Stacey and Mark’s sleeping porch tour, and this week we are continuing the tour into their coastal cottage living room. Yay!

The living room is right off the sleeping porch and also has beautiful views of the bay. Most everything in this room was thrifted or handed down and many items have special meaning including the 48 star wool flag.  It used to hang on the flagpole of the old inn that the house was originally part of. Stacey, with her gift for finding ways to re-purpose items, hung the window valances with mismatched oars that were just hanging around in the basement.
The room was recently brightened up with paint. The dark wood walls were painted with watered down Benjamin Moore in Super White and the floors were painted with floor paint in Benjamin Moore Luxe. Here is a before picture.
The fireplace bricks were also lightly white washed.  It really looks fresh and bright.

Stacey found this chair for $7 at a yard sale and recovered it with upholstery fabric she found at a discount store for only $2.30 per yard.  Here is a progress shot.
The entire project cost just over $10.

She bought enough of the fabric to make some extra pillows.  Old nautical maps of the area hang on the walls.
This room is a great place to sit back and relax while taking in the views of the garden and Blue Hill Bay.
Thanks again to Stacey and Mark.

I fell in love on the very first picture! That lamp and the bare bones painted walls are fabulous. I can hardly believe she transformed the chair for $10. And the property is gorgeous, too. Thanks for the tour!

Absolutely love this cottage! I just re-did a chair almost exactly like that and I love mine so much. Your friend \has a great eye for design.

I want to know where they got that red lampshade in the top photo.

I love how bright and airy this room is. perfect on the waterfront! They really did a great job with the wall color and the fireplace, what a difference it makes!
